William Bridges Transition Model

Created in the 1980's, Bridges suggests that it is not change people struggle with, but rather the "transition" that is harder to deal with. Change is situational, but transition is psychological. It is the inner-re-orientation and the self-redefinition that you have to go through in order to incorporate any of those changes in your life.

Ask participants what kind of situations could be transitions for coachees?

What might be happening to the coaching during ending/neutral/beginning phases?

How might coaching be different in each phase?

According to Bridges, transition is a 3-part psychological process that extends over a long period of time and cannot be planned or managed by the same rational formula that work with change.
