"From PITs to PETs" is a coaching tool designed to help clients challenge and transform negative self-talk or inner criticism into positive, empowering thoughts. PITs (Problem-Influenced Thoughts) represent the negative, critical, and often irrational thoughts that can undermine a client’s confidence and motivation. PETs (Positive Empowering Thoughts) are the reframed, constructive alternatives that support the client’s growth and well-being. This tool is particularly effective for clients struggling with a harsh inner critic, low self-esteem, or persistent negative thinking.
How the PITs to PETs Tool Works
- Identify PITs (Problem-Influenced Thoughts):
- Begin by helping the client identify the negative or critical thoughts they experience. These could be specific thoughts that arise in challenging situations or general patterns of self-criticism. Common PITs might include thoughts like "I’m not good enough," "I always fail," or "No one cares about what I think."
